Starbucks has sponsored Hot Java Cool Jazz for 28 years, raising over $1.3 million to support the jazz programs at five local high schools, and 100 percent of the ticket sales are shared equally.
Garfield High School and Roosevelt High School compete annually in the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival in New York City, each of which has won multiple times.
This year, four of the bands performing at Hot Java Cool Jazz will be in New York City, competing at Essentially Ellington (May 7-11, 2025).
